I have been busy spending time with my family, going to baseball games, traveling, and generally enjoying summer, so I’m cheating this week by linking to today’s post from my website, kellylynnthomas.com.  I wrote about why parents shouldn’t try to get books booted from libraries or schools because of “objectionable” content in response to Meghan Cox Gurdon’s column on the Wall Street Journal essentially endorsing book banning.

Please read the whole thing here!

November is a week away!  That means I will be busy noveling all month for National Novel Writing Month.  On top of that, I am the Bookdriver-in-Chief for the Pittsburgh region’s Great NaNoWriMo Bookdrive.  If you are in Pittsburgh, check out the spiffy website I made and donate some books to the cause!  If you don’t live in Pittsburgh, watch out for the book drive in your region!

I will not be updating much with straight up commentary, though I will keep everyone posted on my word count and noveling adventures, although I’m sadly not writing metafiction this year.  If you check the comments from the entry on NaNoWriMo as a fandom, you’ll see that it spawned two other entries on the same topic!

I did finish my metafictional travel memoir and plan to post on that next week.  Also in the works is a post on Wrimo SushiMustWrite’s metafictional Nano novel (though of course I have to read it first, and I have not had a chance to do that yet).

Well, now that I’m all married and back home, I will be working tirelessly to bring you meta awesomeness every week.  I am behind schedule though, because I had no idea that planning a (nontraditional) wedding in four and a half months was basically a near-impossible, soul-sucking, exhausting and horrible task.  Thankfully, everything went wonderfully in spite of a few minor hiccups and set backs, but, I had no time to work on Narrative in the Blog beforehand.  And as we’ve just gotten home from our honeymoon, I didn’t want to post anything too intense today.

So, even thought these book giveaways aren’t of metafictional texts, they are still awesome and free books.  I hope you enjoy them, and happy reading!

I’m taking a break from my normal commentary on metafiction this week to support a cause I believe in.  The metafiction will be back next Monday, and a new episode of Ruby and the Moon will be up on Friday!

Lawmakers should pass a law that says no law can take away basic human rights.

Oh, wait.  We have one of those already, don’t we?

The Bill of Rights is supposed to protect all American citizens, but unfortunately it doesn’t.  Gay and lesbian couples still do not have the same rights their straight counterparts do.

They can’t file their taxes together.  In many situations they don’t have hospital visitation rights.  It’s harder for them to adopt.  And the list goes on.

Since I am getting married in a mere three months, it pains me knowing that my gay and lesbian friends can’t enjoy the same rights that I am looking forward to.

Tomorrow, March 16, 2010,  the Pennsylvania State Senate is scheduled to vote on a bill that would ban same-sex marriages.

Well, Pennsylvania lawmakers, I’m not okay with taking away basic human rights.  I hope you make the right decision.

The Narrative in the Blog explores metafiction, narrative form and storytelling. It is currently on indefinite hiatus, but I believe there's plenty here to read about and learn from. Enjoy the archives!
